MSR Karting Pt. 1

#003 — I Can Do This All Day

Blunion won a few credits from last year's MSR Houston October karting challenge, so we finally found a dry day to visit in December 2016. After escaping 45 South, the miles of straight road to Angleton, TX can be a soothing drive (if enough bad drivers aren't present). The surrounding acres complemented the open sky, and a repetition of power lines accented the horizon.

We had the karting track to ourselves, and the chilly morning eventually thawed into the afternoon. Once the distant roaring of a racing 458 Italia came to an end, I loved the sound of the rustling breeze filling the rural quietness. Obviously, I was at peace and it made photographing even better.

Blunion had four 15-minute karting sessions on three different karts—each faster than the one before it, with the slowest kart having a top speed of at least 55mph! Here's a list of his fastest lap times for each session:

  • LF Kart | 1:01.890

  • LF Kart | 1:00.533

  • World Formula Kart | 1:00.996

  • Rotax Kart | 0:59.346 (Note: a 15-minute session on this kart normally costs $100!)
